Smart Grid Europe

IEEE ISGT

The Innovative Smart Grid Technologies Conference (ISGT) is sponsored by the IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES). The overall scope of the ISGT conference is the evolution of the electric power system into a smart grid. The Conference is a forum for the participants to discuss state-of-the-art innovations in smart grid technologies. The target participants for the ISGT includes: strategic planners, management, decisions makers, technical experts (on electric power systems, power electronics as well as application areas using computer science, automatic control), regulators, politicians, researchers and students. The Conference feature special sessions and tutorials by international experts on smart grid applications.

The ISGT is a new IEEE conference series starting in 2010. The new conference was launched during 2009 together with the decision to create a new IEEE Transaction on Smart Grid. This was during the lead of the IEEE PES president Wanda Reader.

The first ISGT meeting was held in January 2010 and hosted by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The conference was technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), the IEEE Computer Society, the IEEE Power Electronic Society (PELS), the IEEE Signal Processing Society (SPS) and IEEE-USA , and was held January 19-21, 2010 in Gaithersburg, Washington. The first ISGT conference gathered about 700 persons with 80% from the industry and was a success. The conference chair was Don Von Dollen, at Electric Power Research Institute and Conference Co-Chair was Erich Gunther, EnerNex Corporation and Technical Program Chair was Mohammad Shahidehpour, Illinois Institute of Technology.

This meeting is the first ISGT conference in Europe. It was decided to prepare such a conference during the first successful event in January 2010. The host was awarded to Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg with the conference chair Lina Bertling. The conference is taking place during October 11- 13th 2010. The host for the second ISGT Europe will be announced at the closure of ISGT Europe 2010.

The second ISGT in USA will be held January 17-19, 2011 at the Anaheim Hilton in Anaheim California. The Conference Chair is Erich Gunther, EnerNex Corporation, the Conference Co‐Chair: Mohammad Shahidehpour, Illinois Institute of Technology and the Technical Program Chair: Doug Houseman, EnerNex Corporation.
